Mission Bell by Kelly Thompson

Kelly is an American artist who draws inspiration from the central northern
plains of the United States where he resides. Views of landscapes as flat as
table-tops, soil rich and black coal and vistas that stretch into infinity, leaving
the eye to imagine what might lie just beyond. In describing his work, Kelly
states, “Our landscape, with its balance of land and sky divided sharply by
the horizon, is something that I always come back to in my work both in my
impressionistic landscape paintings and abstract pieces. The passing imagery
imprints itself on my mind as I travel the highways, emerging later in trailing
brush strokes and deep overlapping colors”  The minimalism of Kelly’s work
reflects his artistic drive to simplify, reduce and uncomplicated an image to
define its most effective visual elements.
Kelly’s work has been featured in galleries stretching from the plains of North
Dakota to the density of New York City. Kelly is a childhood friend of
The Collector’s House Curator, painting a series of Mission for his friend in the desert.
